Symposion Workshop „Musiques Glocales – post-exoticism in contemporary written music„
http://matralab.hexagram.ca
After more than a century replete with curiosities, exotisms, appropriations, ethnomusicological and post-colonial theories etc. this day looks at the situation today and here in Montréal around the kind of music aesthetics often qualified as hybrid or inter-cultural. I have invited leading diverse composers of the Montréal scene to discuss their own works and, in a true symposion format, think about questions around the creation of music in a glocal multi-traditional music environment. Conversations will be both in French and in English.

Villes LuminoSoniques – LuminoSoniCities is a multifaceted media arts exhibition I curated in the new spaces of the Goethe Institute Montreal. It showcases the work and collaborations of 10 artists working at or connected to the matralab. In the context of this exhibition I will present my collaboration with Adam Basanta and Julian Stein in the work „piano/forte“, a sound and light installation in which sounds of the city outside will resonate in the strings of a grand piano. Twice during the evening I will perform a 45 min comprovisation score for piano interacting with these city resonances and light impulses.
